They are involved in all facets of planning and conducting tactical CI and human intelligence operations and activities. These activities are designed to locate, identify, and neutralize hostile intelligence and terrorist threats to the command. A collateral duty for CI specialists is to conduct human intelligence operations to collect information of intelligence value to the commander.
In support of these functions, CI specialists utilize automated databases interview/interrogation techniques, liaison, specialized CI techniques, technical support measures, intelligence/investigative photography, report writing techniques, and other capabilities as required to accomplish the mission. CI specialists are expected to possess a working knowledge of the organization, operations, and techniques employed by foreign intelligence services and terrorist organizations.
Although he served with the USMC for seven years, he hardly ever spent any of that time seeing real action. During his last tour he and his team were captured and held for two weeks. In those two weeks he and his people were subjected to terrible methods of torture, he was the sole survivor.
Barely alive Riley was recovered but he was never the same again. When he was finally fit for duty he decided he no longer wanted to be a marine but felt he couldn't turn his back on it completely.
So he signed up with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service where his skills with counter terrorism were proved to be invaluable...NCIS originally wanted to take him on as Intelligence Analyst but Riley wanted to be where the action was but can be called upon to act in that capacity should the need arise.
Sample RP:
Riley Morgan had been placed in charge of the night shift, he didn't mind so much and it meant that he could catch up on reports as hardly anything ever happened on his shift.
The phone rang. He had obviously spoken too soon.
Riley picked it up. "Riley Morgan..." He listened in and immediately sprang into action, he leaned forward and picked up a pen and paper. "Three?" he asked feeling sick to his stomach as he wrote down the details they had so far. "I'll get a team down there right away." He placed the phone down and sat back in his seat to allow himself a few moments.
Three marines gunned down and for what? Riley looked around. "We've got three dead marines," he said firmly getting to his feet and looking to the people he had been teamed with tonight. He pulled out his drawer, an impassive expression on his face as he took out his badge and gun. "Let's move."
